Assay You Say?
Of all the processes and techniques used in mining gold at the Carissa Mill the fire assay is perhaps the most important. The assay is a series of chemical tests that helped the mill crew know how to adjust the chemistry and the operations of the Carissa Mill to maximize the gold recovery.
Larry Rohde ran his own fire assay business in Clancy, Montana for many years and has worked on multiple gold mining operations in the United States. He will use the new Assay exhibit at the Carissa Mil to illustrate the assay process and techniques as they were used in the Carissa.
